V-(으)ㄹ 거예요 — plans — 'I'm going to …' · a first look, verbs without 받침 only
Plans — 'I'm going to …' · a first look, verbs without 받침 only. Korean grammar for beginner learners — Level 1A, lesson 12: 방학에 여행 가고 싶어요 (I want to travel in the holidays — wishes, conditions and plans).
What it means
-ㄹ 거예요 talks about a plan — 'I'm going to …'. Today we use it only with verbs whose stem ends in a vowel: take 다 off, put ㄹ under the last syllable and add 거예요 — 가다 → 갈 거예요, 보다 → 볼 거예요, 하다 → 할 거예요. Ask about a plan with the same form and a rising voice: 뭐 할 거예요? It already points to the future, so use it with time words like 내일 or 방학에, and keep -았/었어요 for what is past: 어제 바다를 봤어요. Verbs with 받침 work a little differently — you will learn them in Level 1B.
