A/V-(으)ㄹ 거예요 (추측) — will probably … · I think … — making a guess
Will probably … · I think … — making a guess. Korean grammar for upper beginner learners — Level 2A, lesson 5: 어디로 여행 갈까요? (Where shall we travel? — reasons and guesses).
What it means
You know -(으)ㄹ 거예요 from Level 1B as 'will' for your own plans: 저는 내일 부산에 갈 거예요. With the weather, with things and with other people, the same ending makes a guess: 'will probably …, I think …'. 내일은 추울 거예요 'It'll probably be cold tomorrow'; 마크 씨는 지금 회사에 있을 거예요 'Mark is probably at work now'. It is the usual answer to a guessing question with -(으)ㄹ까요?: 부산은 따뜻할까요? — 네, 따뜻할 거예요. For something that has probably already happened, put -았/었- in front: 기차가 벌써 도착했을 거예요. The form is the one you know: 을 거예요 after a 받침, ㄹ 거예요 after a vowel; ㄹ words keep one ㄹ (멀 거예요) and ㅂ words change ㅂ to 우 (추울 거예요). With -고 있다 it guesses what someone is doing right now: 회의하고 있을 거예요.
