여기가 N이에요 — naming places — here, there, over there

Naming places — here, there, over there. Korean grammar for beginner learners — Level 1A, lesson 6: 어디에 가요? (Where are you going? — places and positions).

What it means

여기 · 거기 · 저기 are the words for places: 'here', 'there', 'over there'. They work like 이거 · 그거 · 저거 from Lesson 4: 여기 is the place near me (the speaker), 거기 is the place near you (the listener) — on the phone, the place where you are — and 저기 is a place far from both of us that we can see. To say what a place is, use 여기가 + N이에요 / N예요 (Lesson 3: 받침 O → 이에요, 받침 X → 예요): 여기가 교실이에요, 저기가 학교예요. 여기 · 거기 · 저기 have no 받침, so it is always 가. Ask with 어디 'where': 여기가 어디예요? 'What is this place?' On the phone, 거기가 어디예요? means 'Where are you?' — and the answer starts with 여기가.
