날짜 · 요일 + N에 — dates and days + 에 — 'on Saturday', 'on the ninth of October'

Dates and days + 에 — 'on Saturday', 'on the ninth of October'. Korean grammar for beginner learners — Level 1A, lesson 7: 주말에 뭐 했어요? (What did you do at the weekend? — the past tense).

What it means

After a day, a date or a part of the day, 에 means 'on', 'at' or 'in': 토요일에 (on Saturday), 주말에 (at the weekend), 저녁에 (in the evening), 시월 구 일에 (on the ninth of October). It is the same 에 as in 학교에 가요 — here it points to a time instead of a place. Read the date first, then add 에: 10월 9일 → 시월 구 일 → 시월 구 일에. 어제, 오늘, 내일 and 매일 already say when, so they never take 에: 어제 친구를 만났어요. The time comes first in the sentence, then the place, and the verb at the end.
