N(이)나 N — 'or' between two nouns — 커피나 차

'or' between two nouns — 커피나 차. Korean grammar for upper beginner learners — Level 2A, lesson 1: 오랜만이에요, 잘 지냈어요? (Long time no see — how have you been?).

What it means

(이)나 joins two nouns as 'or': 커피나 차 — coffee or tea; either is fine and you will take one of them. After a 받침 it is 이나 (빵이나 밥, 김밥이나 라면); after a vowel it is 나 (커피나 차, 사과나 바나나). The particle of the sentence goes only on the second noun: 김밥이나 라면을 먹어요, 부산이나 제주도에 가요. It is very natural in offers and plans — 커피나 차 마실까요? 내일이나 금요일에 만날까요? — and for what you usually pick: 점심에 보통 김밥이나 라면을 먹어요. (이)나 joins nouns only.
