A-(으)ㄴ/V-는 면이 있다 — has a certain side to it — a careful way to say something is partly true

Has a certain side to it — a careful way to say something is partly true. Korean grammar for advanced learners — Level 5B, lesson 2: 합격 그 후, 수강 신청 (After the admission letter: registering for classes — a syllabus, a timetable, and the 9 am registration war).

What it means

A-(으)ㄴ/V-는 면이 있다 names one side of something: 이 과목은 힘든 면이 있어요 'this course has its hard side'. It means 'partly', not 'completely', so it sounds soft — good when you speak to a professor or at work. Adjectives take -(으)ㄴ 면, verbs and 있다/없다 take -는 면: 힘든 면 · 도움이 되는 면 · 재미있는 면. 면도 있다 says that there is another side too: 힘든 면도 있지만 배우는 것이 많아요.
