V-(으)ㄹ 거예요 — plans — 'I'm going to …', now with every verb
Plans — 'I'm going to …', now with every verb. Korean grammar for beginner learners — Level 1B, lesson 3: 공부하러 도서관에 가요 (Going to the library to study — plans and purposes).
What it means
-(으)ㄹ 거예요 tells a plan: 'I'm going to …'. In Level 1A you used it with verbs that end in a vowel: 가다 → 갈 거예요. Now it works with every verb. After a consonant (받침), add 을 거예요: 먹을 거예요, 읽을 거예요. A stem that ends in ㄹ just adds 거예요: 놀 거예요. ㄷ verbs change ㄷ to ㄹ, as in 들어요: 듣다 → 들을 거예요. To ask, use the same form with a rising voice: 뭐 할 거예요? It goes well with time words such as 내일, 주말에 and 다음 주에, and it works for anyone's plan: 민수 씨는 내일 은행에 갈 거예요.
Forms
| Pattern | When | Example |
|---|---|---|
| -을 거예요 | 받침 O | 먹다 + 을 거예요 → 먹을 거예요 |
