N만 — only — 만 after a noun
Only — 만 after a noun. Korean grammar for beginner learners — Level 1B, lesson 5: 감기에 걸렸어요 (I caught a cold — body, symptoms, the doctor).
What it means
만 means 'only'. Put it straight after a noun — it is 만 with or without 받침: 물만, 약만, 저만. 만 takes the place of 이/가, 은/는 and 을/를, so those drop out: 물을 마셔요 → 물만 마셔요, 안나 씨가 왔어요 → 안나 씨만 왔어요. 에 and 에서 stay, and 만 comes after them: 집에만 있었어요 'I only stayed at home', 학교에서만 공부해요. 만 does not change the verb, so the tense, 안 and 못 work as usual: 어제 물만 마셨어요.
