N(이)라도 — … will do · at least … — the second-best choice

… will do · at least … — the second-best choice. Korean grammar for intermediate learners — Level 3A, lesson 5: 입어 보고 살걸 그랬어요 (I should have tried it on — regrets and hesitation).

What it means

N(이)라도 marks a second-best choice: it is not what you really wanted, but it will do. 하늘색이 없으면 다른 색이라도 주세요 'if there's no sky blue, another colour will do'. After a 받침 add 이라도 (교환이라도, 잠깐이라도); after a vowel add 라도 (커피라도, 다른 사이즈라도). It replaces 이/가 and 을/를 — 차를 주세요 → 차라도 주세요 — but follows other particles: 주말에라도, 집에서라도. It is also a friendly way to make a small offer or a modest suggestion: 바쁘면 커피라도 한잔해요 'if you're busy, let's at least have a coffee', 잠깐이라도 쉬세요 'rest, even just for a moment'. With question words it means 'any … at all', like 누구나 and 언제나 (Lesson 3A-2): 언제라도 연락하세요 'call me any time'. Don't mix it up with 만, 밖에 and 뿐, which mean 'only'. The verb after (이)라도 can be in any tense: 다른 색이라도 받았어요.
