N따라 — especially today · of all days — a day or a time that is unlike the others

Especially today · of all days — a day or a time that is unlike the others. Korean grammar for advanced learners — Level 5A, lesson 10: 자기소개서와 학업 계획서 (The personal statement and study plan — an AI draft versus your own experience, and a mock interview).

What it means

N따라 goes on a time word — 오늘, 그날, 요즘 — and says that this time is unlike other times: 오늘따라 글이 한 줄도 안 써져요 'today of all days I can't write a single line'. There is a feeling of 'why today?' in it, so it often comes with 더, 유난히 or 왜: 오늘따라 더 떨려요. It is usually for something unwanted, but a good surprise works too: 오늘따라 하늘이 유난히 파래요. It is a different word from N에 따라 'depending on' (Lesson 4A-2) — 날씨따라 is wrong; say 날씨에 따라.
