N은/는 N을/를 보여 주는 좋은 예이다 — X is a good example that shows Y — presenting an example in written Korean
X is a good example that shows Y — presenting an example in written Korean. Korean grammar for advanced learners — Level 5A, lesson 10: 자기소개서와 학업 계획서 (The personal statement and study plan — an AI draft versus your own experience, and a mock interview).
What it means
This says that something is a good example of a bigger change or fact: 하늘빌은 한국 가족의 변화를 보여 주는 좋은 예이다 'Haneulvil is a good example that shows how the Korean family has changed'. The first noun is the example — a place, a person, a story, a number; the second is the bigger thing it shows — a change, a problem, a fact. The second slot can be a clause with -다는 것: 준비가 결과를 바꾼다는 것을 보여 주는 좋은 예예요. It belongs to writing and formal speech (예이다 · 예입니다). Lesson 5A-8's N의 예로 N을/를 들다 brings an example into the middle of an explanation; this pattern makes the example the subject of its own sentence.
Forms
| Pattern | When | Example |
|---|---|---|
Key points
- N은/는 N을/를 보여 주는 좋은 예이다 = X is a good example that shows Y — the case first, the bigger thing second: 하늘빌은 가족 변화를 보여 주는 좋은 예이다.
- With a clause: -다는 것을 보여 주는 좋은 예. Written and formal (예이다 · 예입니다); short form N의 좋은 예이다. Mid-explanation, use N의 예로 N을/를 들다 (Lesson 5A-8).
Examples
