Even though — review of Lesson 3A-7, now for pointing out a fact that goes against what you would expect, in comparisons and opinions (not -아/어도 'even if'). Korean grammar for advanced learners — Level 5A, lesson 11: 학교 이야기 (School stories — is the entrance exam still needed in the AI age? Education systems compared).

What it means

-는데도 says that something happened even though the fact before it would make you expect otherwise: 비중이 높은데도 수능 날은 온 나라가 조용해져요 'even though school marks count for more, the whole country goes quiet on CSAT day'. Verbs take -는데도, adjectives -(으)ㄴ데도, nouns 인데도, and the past -았/었는데도; 그런데도 starts a sentence. At Level 5 it is useful in comparisons and opinions, to show where facts and results do not match. -아/어도 is for something not yet true ('even if'); -는데도 is for a fact. No command after it.
