V-(으)ㄴ 바 있다 — has (once) done … — citing a past record in formal writing and speech

Has (once) done … — citing a past record in formal writing and speech. Korean grammar for advanced learners — Level 5A, lesson 3: 만나고 싶은 사람 (Someone I'd like to meet — an interview with a webtoon artist, a career in one sentence, AI-drawn pictures, and the first ten proverbs).

What it means

V-(으)ㄴ 바 있다 states a past action like a line in a record: 5년 동안 보조 작가로 일한 바 있다 'she worked as an assistant for five years'. It means much the same as -(으)ㄴ 적이 있다, but it belongs to formal writing and speech — news, profiles, CVs, presentations. After a 받침 use -은 바 있다 (받은 바 있다), after a vowel -ㄴ 바 있다 (일한 바 있다), and a final ㄹ drops (만든 바 있다). For something that has never happened, say -(으)ㄴ 바 없다. With friends, keep using -(으)ㄴ 적이 있다.
