N을/를 시작으로 N을/를 거쳐 — starting with …, then through … — a career or a route in one sentence

Starting with …, then through … — a career or a route in one sentence. Korean grammar for advanced learners — Level 5A, lesson 3: 만나고 싶은 사람 (Someone I'd like to meet — an interview with a webtoon artist, a career in one sentence, AI-drawn pictures, and the first ten proverbs).

What it means

N을/를 시작으로 N을/를 거쳐 tells a path in order — first, middle, end. The first step takes 을/를 시작으로 'starting with', the middle takes 을/를 거쳐 'going through': 그림책 그림을 시작으로 보조 작가를 거쳐 'starting with picture books, then as an assistant'. Close with a verb such as 맡다, 되다 or 끝나다: 첫 연재를 맡았어요 'took on her first series', 작가가 됐어요 'became an author'. You will meet it in profiles, the news and travel guides: 서울을 시작으로 대전과 대구를 거쳐 부산에서 끝나요 'it starts in Seoul and ends in Busan, via Daejeon and Daegu'.
