If this goes on … (a bad result) — Lesson 4A-3 review, now for raising a problem: 이대로 가다가는 · spoken -다간 · one risky act -았/었다가는. Korean grammar for advanced learners — Level 5B, lesson 11: 수업 발표와 질의응답 (Class presentations and Q&A — an outline, slides that work, and the questions after the talk).

What it means

-다가는 from Lesson 4A-3 warns that if a bad habit goes on, something bad will happen: 그렇게 매일 밤을 새우다가는 병이 날 거예요. In talks and in writing, 「이대로 가다가는」 'if things go on like this' raises a problem: 이대로 가다가는 유학생들이 첫 학기부터 고생할 수도 있습니다. For one act that is enough to cause trouble, use -았/었다가는: 대본만 보고 읽었다가는 큰일 나요. In speech it is shortened to -다간. What follows is always a bad result: 그렇게 넣다간 다들 졸 거야.
