Asking in writing — titles and research questions (Lesson 4B-1 expression, now a grammar point). Korean grammar for advanced learners — Level 5B, lesson 8: 보고서와 인용 (Reports and citations — writing in the formal -다 style, asking in writing with -는가, and declaring what the AI did).
What it means
Written Korean asks with -는가 · -(으)ㄴ가 · N인가: AI는 학습을 돕는가? Verbs and 있다/없다 take -는가, adjectives -(으)ㄴ가, nouns 인가; the past is -았/었는가. It is not a question that waits for an answer: in a title or at the start of a text it shows what the text will examine. It also goes inside a sentence: -는가를 살펴보다 · -는가에 대해. When you speak, use -나요? · -(으)ㄴ가요?
Forms
| Pattern | When | Example |
|---|---|---|
| V-는가 | 동사 · 있다/없다 | 돕다 → 돕는가 |
| A-(으)ㄴ가 · N인가 | 형용사 · 명사 | 같다 → 같은가 |
Key points
- Written question: 동사 · 있다/없다 -는가 (돕는가) · 형용사 -(으)ㄴ가 (같은가) · 명사 인가 (누구의 글인가) · past -았/었는가.
- Titles, research questions, and inside a sentence (-는가를 살펴보다). In speech: -나요? · -(으)ㄴ가요?
Examples

- 동사 · 있다/없다는 -는가, 형용사는 -(으)ㄴ가, 명사는 인가예요. 과거는 -았/었는가예요.

- 「-는가를 살펴보다 · -는가에 대해」처럼 문장 안에도 써요. 말할 때는 -나요? · -(으)ㄴ가요?를 써요.
