A/V-고요 — and also … — adding one more thing in conversation
And also … — adding one more thing in conversation. Korean grammar for beginner learners — Level 1B, lesson 10: 이 옷을 입어 보세요 (Try this on — clothes and describing things).
What it means
-고요 adds one more thing after you have already finished a sentence. Say the first point with -아요/어요, then add the next one with -고요: 이 가게는 옷이 많아요. 값도 싸고요. 'This shop has lots of clothes. And it's cheap, too.' It comes from -고 'and' plus 요: in Level 1A you joined two actions inside one sentence (청바지를 사고 티셔츠도 샀어요); with -고요 the second point comes afterwards, as an extra. Take 다 off and add 고요, with or without 받침 — the stem does not change, so 가볍다 → 가볍고요. 도 'too' often goes with it: 값도 싸고요. For the past, add -았/었- first: 티셔츠도 샀고요. Use it in conversation, in answers and in chats, not in formal writing or -습니다 speech.
