V-아/어 주세요 — asking someone to do something for you — 'please do this for me'

Asking someone to do something for you — 'please do this for me'. Korean grammar for beginner learners — Level 1B, lesson 11: 서울역까지 어떻게 가요? (How do I get to Seoul Station? — transport and directions).

What it means

-아/어 주세요 asks someone to do something for you: 가 주세요, 'please go (there)'; 기다려 주세요, 'please wait (for me)'. Make it like -아요/어요: after ㅏ or ㅗ add 아 주세요 (닫아 주세요; 가다 → 가 주세요, 오다 → 와 주세요), after other vowels add 어 주세요 (읽어 주세요; 기다리다 → 기다려 주세요, 세우다 → 세워 주세요), and 하다 becomes 해 주세요 (말해 주세요). In Level 1A, N 주세요 asked for a thing: 물 주세요, 'water, please'. -아/어 주세요 asks for an action: 물을 사 주세요, 'please buy me some water'. 주다 takes other endings too: 친구가 길을 가르쳐 줬어요, 'my friend showed me the way'; 제가 도와줄게요, 'I'll help you'. 좀 makes a request softer: 좀 도와주세요. Staff talking to customers often use 드리다 instead of 주다: 제가 실어 드릴게요.
