A/V-다는 소리를 듣다 — people say I'm … — what you keep hearing about yourself

People say I'm … — what you keep hearing about yourself. Korean grammar for advanced learners — Level 5A, lesson 2: MBTI와 AI 성격 분석 (MBTI and AI personality tests — types, pretending, and what people say about you).

What it means

A/V-다는 소리를 듣다 reports what other people say about you: 차갑다는 소리를 자주 들어요 'people often tell me I'm cold'. Here 소리 means 'what people say', not a sound; it is casual and is often used for things you would rather not hear. Adjectives take -다는, verbs -ㄴ/는다는 and nouns (이)라는: 꼼꼼하다는 · 잘 웃는다는 · A형이라는 소리. It often goes with 자주 · 많이 · 처음. In polite or formal speech use 말 instead: -다는 말을 듣다.
