N(이)라든가 — things like N or N · N, for example — giving a few examples of a kind

Things like N or N · N, for example — giving a few examples of a kind. Korean grammar for advanced learners — Level 5A, lesson 5: 연애도 앱으로 (Dating by app — dating apps, AI relationship advice, and a generation that doesn't date).

What it means

N(이)라든가 gives a few examples of a kind of thing: 꽃이라든가 반지라든가 하는 선물 'presents like flowers or a ring'. After a 받침 use 이라든가 (꽃이라든가, 돈이라든가), after a vowel 라든가 (반지라든가, 취미라든가). Usually there are two examples, followed by 하는 N, 것 or 이유 — and the listener understands there could be more: 돈이라든가 시간이라든가 하는 이유로 'for reasons like money or time'. (이)라든지 means the same. Do not mix it up with N(이)든지 'any N at all': 꽃이든지 반지든지 다 좋아요 means anything is fine, but 꽃이라든가 반지라든가 하는 선물 just names examples.
