A/V-(으)ㄹ지라도 — even if … · even though … — a strong, formal 'even if' (standard item 233)

Even if … · even though … — a strong, formal 'even if' (standard item 233). Korean grammar for advanced learners — Level 5A, lesson 8: 일하는 사람들 (People at work — jobs changing with AI and remote work, and a panel discussion).

What it means

A/V-(으)ㄹ지라도 says strongly that the second half does not change, whatever the first half says: 비록 경험은 부족할지라도 누구보다 빨리 배우겠습니다 'Even though I lack experience, I will learn faster than anyone'. It is stronger and more formal than -아/어도 and -더라도, and common in interviews, presentations and writing. It often goes with 비록 · 아무리 · 설사: 기술이 아무리 발달할지라도 'however far technology advances'. A stem with 받침 takes -을지라도; without 받침 or with ㄹ, -ㄹ지라도; nouns take (이)ㄹ지라도: 신입일지라도 'even if I am a newcomer'.
