Review: paperwork and the counter — that's how it is, not to mention, that's all it takes, like this, manage to, since (so you must), inasmuch as, on the other hand (Lessons 5B-9, 5B-10). What it means
The language of the counter. Scholarships (5B-9): -는 법이다 states how things are (or should be done), N은/는 말할 것도 없고 'not to mention', -(으)면 그만이다 'that's all it takes' or 'once past, it's over', 이래 가지고는 'like this, it won't work'. Visas (5B-10): -아/어 내다 'managed to get it done', -는 이상 'since … (so you must)'. Insurance (5B-10): -(으)ㄴ/는 만큼 'since … (so it's fair that)', 한편으로(는) 'on the other hand'.

Key points
- Scholarships and certificates (5B-9): -는 법이다 (that's how it is) · 말할 것도 없고 (not to mention) · -(으)면 그만이다 (that's all it takes · then it's over) · 이래 가지고는 (like this, it won't work).
- Visas and insurance (5B-10): -아/어 내다 (managed to) · -는 이상 (since — so you must) · -는 만큼 (inasmuch as — so it's fair) · 한편으로는 … 한편으로는 (two sides).
Examples
- 장학금: -는 법이다는 늘 그렇다는 말이에요 — 서류는 미리 준비하는 법이에요. N은/는 말할 것도 없고는 「N은 당연하고 더」예요.
- 창구: -(으)면 그만이다는 「그것만 하면 돼요」 또는 「지나면 끝이에요」. 이래 가지고는 「이렇게 하면 안 돼요」예요.
- 비자: -아/어 내다는 어려운 일을 끝까지 해요 — 다 준비해 냈어요. -는 이상은 그런 사실 때문에 꼭 해야 하는 일이 있을 때예요.
- 보험: -(으)ㄴ/는 만큼은 그런 사실에 맞는 결과예요 — 유학생인 만큼 감면은 그대로예요. 한편으로는 다른 쪽 모습을 말해요.
