V-(으)ㄹ 테다 — I will — just watch: a firm vow, usually to yourself
I will — just watch: a firm vow, usually to yourself. Korean grammar for advanced learners — Level 5B, lesson 6: 알바와 노동권 (Part-time work and your rights — a work permit, a contract, the weekly holiday allowance, and wages that never came).
What it means
V-(으)ㄹ 테다 states a strong resolve, 'I will do it, no matter what': 이번에는 꼭 받아 낼 테다. Add -(으)ㄹ 테다 to a verb — -을 테다 after a 받침 (읽을 테다), -ㄹ 테다 without one (할 테다). It is usually said to yourself or written in a diary; to a close friend say -(으)ㄹ 테야. There is no 테다요: to someone older or higher, use -겠습니다 or -(으)ㄹ 거예요.
Forms
| Pattern | When | Example |
|---|---|---|
| V-을 테다 | 동사 (받침 ○) | 읽다 → 끝까지 읽을 테다 |
| V-ㄹ 테다 | 동사 (받침 × · ㄹ 받침) | 받아 내다 → 꼭 받아 낼 테다 |
