N이자 N — both … and … at once — one person or thing in two roles

Both … and … at once — one person or thing in two roles. Korean grammar for advanced learners — Level 5B, lesson 5: 내 돈 지키기 (Protecting my money — a pay slip, the January tax settlement, scam calls and texts, and a bank counter).

What it means

N이자 N says that one person or thing plays two roles at once: 이 카드는 체크카드이자 교통카드예요. Add 이자 to the first noun and add the second; it stays 이자 after a vowel too: 과장이자 · 카드이자. Both nouns point to the same thing: Mark = manager = student. It sounds a little more formal than -(으)면서, and it is not the 이자 'interest' of a bank.
