Starting today, I'll work out — resolutions, excuses and cheering. Lesson 9 of Level 4B in the haru Korean regular course.
What you will be able to do
- Make a promise to yourself, advise someone, or tell someone off about the past with -아/어야지(요) and -았/었어야지(요): 오늘부터 운동해야지.
- Explain that something sudden and unexpected caused a (usually bad) result with -는 바람에 — and tell it apart from -는 탓에, -는 통에 and -느라고: 늦잠을 자는 바람에 못 뛰었어요.
- Say that something is pointless, or that you're sure of the result without even checking, with -(으)나 마나: 이 우산은 너무 작아서 쓰나 마나예요.
- Cheer and give plain-style orders with -아/어라 and -지 마라, and recognise the whole plain style (해라체) in children's talk, proverbs, cheers and exam instructions: 끝까지 달려라!
