What it means
Level 3B also brought you into written Korean. -다고 합니다 (3B-10) is the news version of -대요: reporters pass on what a ministry, a school or a survey said — 올해 외국인 유학생이 또 늘었다고 합니다; with nouns it is (이)라고 합니다, and newspapers use the plain -다고 한다. -(으)ㄴ/는 것으로 나타났다 (3B-10) reports what a survey or a study found: 학생들은 쓰기를 가장 어려워하는 것으로 나타났다 — verbs -는 것으로, the past V-(으)ㄴ 것으로 (증가한 것으로), adjectives -(으)ㄴ 것으로 (많은 것으로), nouns 인 것으로 (쓰기인 것으로). It is exactly the sentence TOPIK question 53 wants. -(으)ㅁ (3B-11) turns a sentence into a short noun ending for notes, signs, forms and minutes: 오후 수업 없음 · 서류 확인함 · 3층으로 바뀜; the past is -았/었음 (끝났음), and after ㄹ the ㅁ goes under it: 알다 → 앎, 살다 → 삶. -(으)시기 바랍니다 (3B-11) is the polite closing request of a notice or an announcement: 신분증을 꼭 가져오시기 바랍니다. In speech the same messages become -대요, -았/었대요, -아/어요 and -(으)세요.
